Re: Brass Rubbings
Mon, February 7, 2005 - 10:10 PMTo my knowledge, people haven't stopped doing rubbings. I was told by someone just recently that they had done some rubbings in Boston not too long ago.
Falcons' Court, a non-profit I work with is dedicated to educating about the world we live in and its history has a large collection of brass rubbing plates which we take to schools for use in our educational programs.
I believe the majority of the brasses were done during the Middle Ages and Renaissance, but there are artists who will re-create such things. -

There is also an organization based out of Washington DC that has replicas of some of the more famous English Tomb Brasses, that "tours" the USA.
They particularly visit Catholic/Anglican churches, etc, and the like. I got started on my Rubbing Collection about 15 years ago with their show at Grace Cathedral here in SF.
If I can find the link,I'll forward it to you.
